Richard Flynn, LCPC, ATR-BC, MFLC, is a Board Certified Art Therapist, Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, Military Family and Life Counselor, who dedicated to helping children, teens, and young adults discover and develop their unique abilities to cope with social-emotional challenges, anxiety, depression, Domestic Violence, as well as, families seeking Social Skills training for children and adolescents diagnosed with Social Anxiety and Autism Spectrum Disorder. Richard earned a Bachelors of Science (B.S.) in Psychology, a Bachelors degree in Fine Art (B.F.A.), and a Masters Degree in Art Therapy (M.A.A.T.) at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Additionally, he has also received specialized trained in the fields of Autism (Floortime/DIR), Domestic Violence, Certified Child and Adolescent Trauma Professional, Social Thinking Curriculum, and Grief Counseling.

In addition to working in private practice setting, Rich has also worked as an Art Therapist for Domestic Violence Agencies, therapeutic day schools for children, as a college level Art Instructor (American Academy of Art and Illinois Institute of Art), a professional gallery and computer graphic artist, and as a Senior Milieu Therapist at Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago for over 5.5 years.

Rich encourages his clients to use their creative abilities to problem solve, strengthen resilience, and to develop strategies that will help them pursue short-term and long-term goals. Rich strives to build a strong rapport and safe environment for his clients, and uses a combination of Art Therapy and Psychotherapy during individual and group sessions, which often include art-making, talk therapy, narrative approaches, video therapy, and role-playing experientials. Additionally, he has provided volunteer services at several Chicago area children’s hospitals, community centers, and senior citizen homes as an Art Therapist to help critically and chronically ill children and adults.

Richard enjoys hiking, biking, creating art, sports, and is an avid fan of American and Japanese animation/comics and Quantum Physics.
